‘Raised By Wolves’: Season two of sci-fi drama series has a lot of bite!

‘Raised By Wolves’ season two, starring SA actress Kim Engelbrecht, has been lauded as ‘a glorious sci-fi journey’.

Season two of Raised By Wolves, directed by Ridley Scott, is currently streaming on Showmax. The first season of the science-fiction drama series was named one of Showmax’s most-watched series’ of 2021. 

The second season, starring South Africa’s very own Kim Engelbrecht, has received a 100% rating on film and television review site, Rotten Tomatoes

Raised by Wolves season one follows two “androids”. Mother (played by Amanda Collin) and Father (played by Abubakar Salim) who are tasked with raising human children as atheists on a virgin planet called Kelper-22b, after Earth had been destroyed in a religious war.

The first season introduces Marcus (Travis Filmmel) and Sue (Niamh Algar), an atheist couple who take on the identity of Mithraic believers to escape Earth.

The first season of Raised By Wolves was named one of Showmax’s most-watched series’ of 2021. It was also nominated for three Critics’ Choice Super Awards including Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Series. 



Season two of the hit series sees Mother and Father move their human children into an atheist community on Kelper-22b’s mysterious tropical zone. Navigating this new society is only the beginning of the several obstacles that come in their way. 

Award-winning actor Kim Engelbrecht has a key role in this season. She plays Decima, a weapons engineer who becomes Marcus’ first recruit. Decima is also hoping to rekindle her relationship with an android version of her dead daughter, Vrille. 

“She’s trying to have this connection with a daughter, which doesn’t come immediately and it doesn’t come naturally because she’s not a daughter, she’s an android,” Engelbrecht told Rotton Tomatoes. 

Raised By Wolves season two has already received a 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This season of the show was shot in Cape Town, Western Cape.

Besides receiving a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, Raised By Wolves has also received praise from various publications around the world. 

Decider hailed the series as “the most exciting sci-fi” show since Battlestar GalaticaPaste wrote: “There is simply nothing like Raised by Wolves on television… TV’s most uniquely bizarre series remains a glorious sci-fi journey”.

Because of her role as Decima, Kim Engelbrecht has been catapulted into the IMDb’s top 2 500 actresses in the world.
