Shepherd Bushiri’s fascinating life is the stuff movies are made of…a fugitive pastor with a penchant for performing miracles, running pyramid schemes and impregnating young women.

If this sounds like something you would watch, then you’re in for a treat. Moja Love has commissioned a TV drama series about the controversial prophet’s life titled Bushiri: Inkalakatha, which is set to air next year on the DStv channel.

BIG BUDGET FOR BUSHIRI

According to City Press, Bushiri Inkalakatha is a 13-part drama series which will feature a cast of more than 1600 actors and will be filmed in 35 locations, including Malawi, where the prophet was born.

“Our aim is to make sure that this is a historically accurate project. We want it to be accurate, dramatic and entertaining all the way, and to become one of the biggest commercial successes in the history of South African television viewership,” said Moja Love chief executive Aubrey Tau.

Aubrey states that the storyline for the series was penned by a team of writers, including actress and playwright Bongi Ndaba and former City Press journalist Ntombizodwa Makhoba who covered the shenanigans of the pastor accused of running a scam syndicate.

The series will begin filming in January 2022.

GIVING JUB JUB A RUN FOR HIS MONEY

Aubrey Tau anticipates that Bushiri:Inkalakatha will be a hit with viewers and even surpass the popularity of their number one show: Uyajola 9/9 hosted by former muso Jub Jub

“Our viewers are addicted to the type of shows that we give them and this project won’t be different. On satellite, Uyajola 9/9 is still the most watched programme in the history of pay TV.

“We think Bushiri: Inkalakatha will beat Uyajola 9/9’s numbers or be the second. We are on the way to making history with our television series and changing the way the industry approaches things.”
