2. Gqeberha: The Empire

This new show which plays along the winning formula of a drama that surrounds a powerful family is a concept that has been seen once too often on television. This difference with Gqeberha is that it has that special touch that is applied by the local production companies in South Africa.

This with a cast that boasts a list of mostly Eastern Cape bred actors brought the authenticity to the show that is branded as being set in the city of Gqeberha.

4. The Real Housewives of Durban

The latest season of The Real Housewives of Durban is definitely its most dramatic. The Durban edition of the African Real Housewives franchise followed on the heels of the Johannesburg edition but it quickly surpassed its predecessor. This season we see the newer cast members of the show going toe to toe with series regulars. The loyalties are divided between the women and in true Real Housewives fashion it is all done fabulously.

The show is not to be missed because of not only the dramatic storylines but to also get a behind the scenes glimpse into the lives of these fabulous and hard-working group of women.

5. The Wife

This show stole the hearts of viewers from its first season. The television adaption of the popular book series by Dudu Busani-Dube got the whole of Mzansi talking with its rawness and the way that it decided to play out the story of the various Zulu brothers and the women in their lives.

The show has gained a lot of controversy over the years, from cast changes to the criticism received by fans of the book series about the fact that the show has struggled to stay true to the book series. ‘The Mbumba Nation’ or ‘5am gang’ which is what the show’s fan call themselves will no doubt be left with an empty slot in their viewing schedule when the show wraps up its current season which is the show’s last season.
