Best Picture: Five feature films snubbed at the Oscars [watch]

From the crime drama ‘House of Gucci’ to the Kristen Stewart-led ‘Spencer’, here are five films that did not land a Best Picture nod.

The 10 Best Picture nominees for the 94th Oscar Awards were announced on Tuesday 8 February. Unfortunately, 266 feature films did not qualify for the prestigious award. 

Here are five films from the Best Picture shortlist that weren’t selected as a nominee.

1. ‘HOUSE OF GUCCI’

House of Gucci is an American biographical crime drama film that follows Patrizia Reggiani, who marries into the Gucci family. The Lady Gaga-led film sees the family fight for control over the Gucci empire.

Although Lady Gaga’s performance was strong, it did not receive a Best Actress nomination. The film was however nominated in the Best Make Up and Hairstyling category.

2. ‘PASSING’

Passing is based on Nella Larsen’s 1929 novel of the same name. The film set in the 1920s follows the reunion of two high school friends who have the same obsession that shakes up their realities. 

The film is led by American actress Tessa Thompson and British-Irish actress Ruth Negga who was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress, Motion Picture category at the Golden Globe Awards. 

The film is currently streaming on Netflix.

3. ‘SPENCER’

The Kristen Stewart-led film Spencer, also failed to land a Best Oscar nomination. The film follows Princess Diana after her decision to get divorced from Prince Charles. The film takes place over three days at Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham Estate. 

Although the film did not land a Best Picture nod, Kristen Stewart landed her first Oscar nomination in the Best Actress category.

4. ‘SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME’

Spider-Man: No Way Home was one of the highest-grossing films of 2021 but sadly, the film did not receive a Best Picture nod. 

The film follows Peter Parker aka Spider-Man whose true identity is revealed. As he struggles to navigate the world, he figures out what it truly means to be Spider-Man again.

5. ‘NO TIME TO DIE’

No Time To Die was Daniel Craig’s last film as James Bond. The spy film follows Bond, who gets a call from Felix Leiter, an old friend asking for help. Bond must leave Jamaica to fight off a villain. 

Although the film received a nod in the Best Original Song category, the film sadly did not make the Best Picture nominations list.
