Next James Bond odds: Charlize Theron ‘added to the mix’ by bookies

A Benoni James Bond, you say? Charlize Theron is known for her bad-assery in Hollywood – and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the bookmakers.

If the next James Bond has to contend with a load shedding schedule, we’re down for it: Bookies have added the Benoni-born actress Charlize Theron to their list of candidates who may replace Daniel Craig as 007, as the rumour mill whips itself into a frenzy this week. No Time To Die hits cinemas on Thursday 30 September.

Who will be the next James Bond? Odds, favourites, and outsiders…

No Time to Die is part of a backlog of major productions held back by distributors during the pandemic, hitting cinemas hard, and forcing some new films to be streamed. The release will be exclusive for movie theatres, with struggling venues hoping that some classic James Bond can lure back crowds.

The latest film in the franchise will be Craig’s last outing as the super-suave spy. That has created a vacancy for one of the most coveted roles in Hollywood – and several favourites have already emerged.

Bookies add Charlize Theron to ‘next James Bond’ lists

Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception) and Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton) are the clear front-runners, according to British bookmakers. The likes of Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and Michael Fassbender – all Tinseltown A-listers – have drifted away from the top-spot in recent weeks. However, Charlize Theron is a ‘recent addition’ to the list.

She is, though, a rank outsider. SkyBet has the Atomic Blonde star at 150/1 to become the next James Bond – and it’s fair to say the 46-year-old is The Long Shot in this particular race.

The name’s Theron, Charlize Theron

To put it into context, she has as much chance of becoming the latest 007 as Priyanka Chopra and Thandiwe Newton do – and they are far from the front of the queue, let’s just say.

If you were to bet R100 on Charlize Theron replacing Daniel Craig, you’d get a whopping R15 000 back – which clearly illustrates just how big of an upset this would be. For the soccer fans out there, it’s about as likely as Burnley’s Ashley Barnes finishing as the top scorer in the English Premier League this year. Say no more…
