The second season of Izingane ZeS’thembu, which features polygamist Musa Mseleku’s children, will be airing soon.

While the first season did well, viewers also criticised show. According to creator Portia Hlubi, who spoke to The Citizen, they took the criticism and improved the show.

“We are a group of people that take criticism to heart. We read the tweets, we saw what people were saying. They wanted to see more of the family. Not that they had any issues with the girlfriends, but they felt that the premise of the show was izingane zesthembu,” Hlubi told The publication.

“They [the audience] wanted a nice balance of seeing the kids go to school, just do mundane day-to-day things, so we really provided that this season. You see a lot of the siblings more,” said Hlubi.

Last season saw Mpumelelo Mseleku, the second eldest child and firstborn son, trying to walk in his father’s footsteps by “juggling” two women – Vuyokazi Nciweni and Tirelo Kale – whom he now shares three children with. His father has four wives, MaCele, Mayeni (Mpumelelo’s mother), MaKhumalo and MaNgwabe.

When the first season started, Tirelo was pregnant with her first child, and it ended with Vuyokazi expecting her second.

The aspiring polygamist has been claiming readiness for marriage, for more girlfriends and more wives. In one of the episode of their family series, Uthando Nesthembu season seven, he told his parents that he wants to marry a virgin first before taking his baby mamas as his wives. However, his parents were against this idea as they told him that he needs to marry his girlfriends first.

“Mpumelelo no longer lives in Joburg, he’s back home. Tirelo just gave birth, she’s in Rustenburg. Vuyokazi also has a newborn in Cape Town. So I think the challenge this season was it’s not all fun and games anymore. These are moms now.”

About the storyline, she said: “I’m not going to give away any spoilers, but halfway through the season there are a couple of new faces and new storylines.”

Viewers will get to explore Mseleku’s second son, Lwandle Mseleku, outside of Mpumelelo. They will also see his romantic side as he sets out on a journey to finding love.

Abongwe Mseleku, who is considered ‘The Glue’ of the siblings, will continue to be adamant that they all need to be closer. This season she will reveal a bit more about her sexuality as she has regained a lot of confidence during her time in Johannesburg.

Another Izingane zeS’thembu cast member expected to come out of her shell this season is Mpilo Mseleku, who is turning 21 years old. Viewers will see more of her at school and how she deals with relationships outside of her siblings. Plus, with her turning 21, there are certain cultural expectations she will be confronted with.
