The Ndlovu Youth Choir recently shared their new music video, this time putting their own spin on Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s big hit, Shallow.

Fans might remember that the Ndlovu Youth Choir first rose to fame as finalists on season 14 of America’s Got Talent, where they blew away the judges time and time again.

Now, the video that made its premiere on 31 May, already has over 100 000 views on YouTube. “Cape Town, we love you!” the choir from Limpopo later commented.

Some YouTube subscribers said that this is probably their favourite version: “The best version I’ve heard to date but, as a South African, I am probably biased! Also incredibly proud of you guys!” said Jane Canny. Meanwhile, Ruthlyn Aaron said that the choir can do anything. “Once again Ndlovu choir have given me goosebumps with their amazing talent. Is there anything you guys can’t do.”

A new direction

Ralf Schmitt, artistic director of the Ndlovu Youth Choir later told IOL that: “For us as a choir, it is important that each project we take on has a strong focus on not only the performance aspect, but that it is an opportunity for us to upskill all our choristers where we can. We’re excited with the new direction the choir is taking in not only being a performing arts organisation but now also working in the writing space, creating new and original song content,” said Schmitt.

On the choir’s Instagram page the group posted: “To all the amazing @ladygaga fans, we hope you enjoy our special African version of #Shallow.”
