‘Muvhango’s’ Maumela Mahuwa stars in local comedy film ‘The Wrong Girl’

Actress Maumela Mahuwa – who plays Susan in ‘Muvhango’ has landed a role in ‘The Wrong Girl’ by Nigerian filmmaker, Frank Orji.

Popular Muvhango actress Maumela Mahuwa – who’s been playing the role of Susan Mukwevho for over a decade has scored a role in a local comedy film titled The Wrong Girl.   

She will play Police Officer Mabula in the local comedy film.

MAUMELA MAHUWA IN ‘THE WRONG GIRL’  

Seasoned Muvhango actress Maumela Mahuwa will star in a short film The Wrong Girl as a police officer.   

The film is about an undercover Hawks agent; Fhatuwani (Palesa Sehlare) who gets herself kidnapped by three amateur thugs to root out human trafficking operation according to Sowetan.  

The comedy film also stars Stanley Khoza, Ntando Mthembu, Mpho Malange, Sean O’niel and Nwabisa Noguba.  

It is directed by award-winning Nigerian filmmaker Frank Orji and is produced by the African Academy of Cinematic Art (AACA).  

The organisation is a black-owned film school that was established by the Muvhango actress, Frank Orji, and Alicia Orji six years ago.  

It offers training in filmmaking, screen and theatre acting, journalism, advertising, graphic design, interactive media, and photography.  

WHY THE ‘MUVHANGO’ ACTRESS TOOK ON THE POLICE OFFICER ROLE  

The actress told Sowetan that she wanted to be part of The Wrong Girl’s storyline because it shows women’s power.  

“The story is interesting, that is why I am part of the film and this is my baby.”

“It is an interesting story that shows that every woman is a feminist.”

“Some might claim they are not but when push comes to shove the feminist side comes out”

Mahuwa says she liked how Police Officer Mabula used her talent to earn respect from her colleagues without being rude.  

“This is our first film at the academy, apart from student films that we have been producing.”

“I cannot wait for people to see the talent we have. Our plan is to develop the short film into a feature film.”
