If you’re a Minions fan, you’ll definitely want to add The Rise of Gru to your must-see movie list.

The much-awaited animated spin-off hits the cinemas today – Friday 1 July – after a two-year delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

THE RISE OF GRU IS THE MINIONS PREQUEL

The Rise of Gru is the prequel in the series of Minions movies. The film follows the journey of Gru who aspires to be like his favourite villain, Jean Clawed from the Vicious 6.

The fifth film in the Despicable Me/Minions franchise is set in the disco era of the 1970s.

Gru is invited to try out for a spot in the Vicious 6, but when the group discovers he is just 12 years old, they send him packing. Naturally, this does not deter Gru from forging his own way as a budding bad guy – now with the help of his hero.

With lots of sarcastic quips and karate chops, Gru goes on a wild mission with his Minions sidekicks. And he discovers that the baddest villain to ever live is actually nothing but a big softie!

MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU

The Rise of Gru stars the voices of some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Steve Carrell (Gru), Taraji P Henson (Belle Bottom), and Jean-Claude van Damme (Jean Clawed)
