Ladysmith Black Mambazo to headline global ‘Sounds of Celebration’ concert

Ladysmith Black Mambazo and other big names will be stepping onto the virtual stage at ‘Sounds of Celebration’ this Sunday.

Iconic South African choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo are set to feature at the eighth edition of the international Sounds of Celebration concert which will be streamed on 23 May. 

Ladysmith Black Mambazo boast an illustrious career with no less than five Grammy awards under the belt, as well as and featuring on Paul Simon’s Graceland album.

They also reached No 15 on the UK charts with their cover of Swing Low Sweet Chariot, for the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

The virtual concert will also feature Wouter Kellerman and the Vienna Boys’ Choir.

WATCH ‘SOUNDS OF CELEBRATION’ TEASER

The concert, backed by presented by Education Africa and Sydenham Shul, will be hosted by well-known South African music producer David Bloch and Dubai’s Layla Kardan.

“Join us on Sunday 23rd May 2021 at 17h00 CAT for the 8th Annual Sounds of Celebration, a global concert of social cohesion featuring Grammy Award winners & internationally acclaimed performers and musicians from all over the world,” wrote Education Africa on their YouTube channel.

The virtual concert will be available online for seven days after the premiere. 

THE VIRTUAL ‘SOUNDS OF CELEBRATION’

According to Education Africa’s YouTube channel, the concert will feature appearances from:

  • Gad Elbaz (US)
  • The Solomon Brothers (Israel)
  • Gregory Maqoma (South Africa)
  • Pops Mohamed (South Africa
  • Justin Wilman (UK) 
  • Benna Duo (Dubai)

There will also be special appearances by:

  • The Syrian Peace Choir (Germany)
  • The Queen Victoria School Pipe Band (Scotland)
  • The Peace Drums Project (Israel)
  • The Urdang Academy (UK) 

DAVID BLOCH ON ‘SOUNDS OF CELEBRATION’

Bloch said he is excited to introduce a new global audience to the concert. 

“The pandemic has forced us to re-think how we present ’Sounds of Celebration’, and while this may be our eighth edition, I’m so excited to introduce an entirely new global audience to this incredible international concert of social cohesion and the remarkable work undertaken by Education Africa,” said Bloch according to IOL.

“The ’Sounds of Celebration’ team are looking forward to sharing this latest offering with a global audience and to inspiring patrons around the world,” he continued.
