Pretoria-based artist Janie Bay released her second album Prisma on 18 June, pushing the envelope in songwriting and production yet again…

WHO IS JANIE BAY?

Janie Bay is a Sama-nominated Afrikaans artist whose music has been streamed more than six million times across all music streaming platforms. According to Radiomonitor South Africa, in the past two years Bay’s music has had more than 90 million impacts. 

Bay’s new album is a masterful offering of diverse moods and musical textures, that play widely between emotive ballads, light-hearted pop and a good dose of electronic adrenaline.

“I felt closer to people during the make of this album. The songs are personal, but also an expression of what we are going through as a collective and I hope that everyone that listens will enjoy it.”

Prisma is a culmination of songs written between 2019 and early 2021. Bay explores themes of family, love, passion, loss and encouragement. 

Bay says she enjoys writing songs about the musings of love. Speaking in depth about the opening track My Lief, featuring Majozi and Early B she said, 

“Relationships aren’t perfect. Sometimes things get hectic, but then one remembers that through true commitment, partnerships can stick through thick and thin.”

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ‘PRISMA’

Janie Bay’s new album features Ek Glo Nog in Jou, that she recorded with Danie Reënwolf. The single reached No 1 on Jacaranda FM in 2020. The music video has been viewed over half-a-million times on YouTube and continues to grow. 

Bay also covered Fokofpolisiekar’s classic Tevrede? in a more toned-down version of the single.
