American cable channel Lifetime released their upcoming documentary Janet on Monday 3 January.

The first look at Janet Jackson’s explosive documentary titled Janet is here. The Lifetime and A&E documentary is a two-night, four-hour documentary – which airs on 28 January. This marks the 40th anniversary of the Feedback hitmaker’s first album.

A South African release date for the documentary has not yet been revealed.

“Janet has enjoyed immense success but also seen incredible tragedy. She has endured a tumultuous private life in the face of extraordinary public scrutiny. With no stone left unturned, Janet lifts the lid on her private life for the very first time and reveals the most intimate moments of the star ever caught on camera,” reads the synopsis of the documentary.

The documentary is produced for Lifetime and A&E. Janet and Randy Jackson will serve as executive producers.

The singer addresses how she felt when her brother Michael Jackson faced child sexual abuse allegations.

“There’s a great deal of scrutiny that comes with having that last name,”she says in the trailer.

The singer’s 2004 “nipplegate” scandal will also be explored in the documentary. While performing at the SuperBowl halftime show Justin Timberlake exposed Janet Jackson’s right breast on live television to an estimated 100 million people. The incident was dubbed a wardrobe malfunction but her stylist claims he does not malfunction.

The nipplegate scandal was also explored in a separate documentary titled Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson. However, the singer was not a part of that documentary.

The documentary will also cover,

  • The Jackson family mourning the loss of their father Joseph.
  • Janet’s return to the world stage after a sudden break.
  • The death of her brother Michael.
  • Becoming a mother later in life.
  • The breakdown of her romantic relationship and more.
