‘Idols SA’: Top 12 wow judges in second round of live shows [watch]

‘Don’t forget me when you’re famous’: The second half of the ‘Idols SA’ top 12 received rave reviews from the judges on Sunday 4 September.

The second round of Idols SA live shows took place on Sunday 4 September with the second half of the top 12 showing off their stellar singing skills. Group B, made up of Noxolo Mthethwa, Nandi Ndathane, CeeJay Canvas, Lerato Matsabu, Ty Loner and Nozi Sibiya teamed up with a Mzansi star for the first performance and later wowed the judges with a solo performance.

Group A, comprised of Tesmin-Robyn, Zee Arnolds, Thapelo Malome, Mpilwenhle Mokopu, Kabelo Makhetha and Hope Mkhway, performed on Sunday 28 August.

‘IDOLS SA’ CONTESTANTS SING ALONGSIDE MZANSI GIANTS 

Mzansi singer-songwriters Langa Mavuso, Kelly Khumalo, Presss, Nomfundo Moh, Mduduzi Ncube and amapiano star Boohle all performed alongside the second group of Idols SA top 12 contestants. 

Durban-based singer Noxolo Mthethwa and Kelly Khumalo opened the show with Kuyenyukela, from Kelly’s 2020 album, The Voice Of Africa. Noxolo received high praise from Kelly after hitting all the right notes. 

Nozi Sibiya, from Durban, also delivered a stand-out performance alongside R&B singer Langa Mavuso. The two performed Langa’s romantic single Mvula and the award-winning singer said Nozi was “a flower waiting to blossom”.

CONTESTANTS TAKE ON CHART-TOPPING SINGLES 

After performing their duets, the Idols SA contestants took the stage for performances of a few global hits. All six contestants delivered a superstar performance but only a few shone brightly. 

Following her performance of Soft Life with Nomfundo Moh, Johannesburg-based Lerato sang Doja Cat’s Grammy-winning single featuring SZA, Kiss Me More. Somizi Mhlongo was thoroughly impressed by her performance. 

Ty Loner performed Burna Boy’s chart-topping hit, Last Last and received high praise from JR Bogopa. 

“Don’t forget me when you’re famous,” said JR.

TWEEPS REACT TO ‘IDOLS SA’ PERFORMANCES

Taking to Twitter, some tweeps were thrilled with the second round of Idols SA performance while others had some mixed reviews. 

“Ty Loner is an R&B singer! This guy can sing,” wrote one tweep. 

“I don’t know whether Noxolo opened or shut the entire show down but girl!! You ate it up,” wrote another tweep. 

“This is beautiful. The melody!! Come on Langa and Nozi.” 

“Nozi can sing but this Beyoncè song was not for her. She sounded like she was gonna lose her breath any moment. She just seemed uncomfortable and lacking. “
