After a virtual event in 2020 and earlier this year, 947 Huawei Joburg Day is returning and it will be held at Kyalami Grand Prix Centre in Midrand on Friday 22 October.

To meet COVID-19 protocols, only a limited number of 947 listeners will be allowed to experience the event in person as VIPs but it will also be live on the 947 website. Electronic duo Goldfish will be performing at this year’s event along with several other local stars.

For the first time, Huawei Joburg Day will be more than just the tunes. The exciting event will be a mix of fashion, design, entertainment and music. 947 listeners will have the chance to showcase their creativity in fashion, sneaker design, radio presenting and music in an on-air talent search.

The winners in these categories will share the stage on 22 October with the artists who will perform.

This year, Goldfish, Matthew Mole, Prince Kaybee, Nasty C, Shekhinah and amapiano sensation DBN Gogo, will be performing on the 947 Huawei Joburg Day stage.

Electronic music duo Goldfish — made up of Dominic Peters and David Poole — have not returned to South Africa since 2019 and they will be performing their set virtually from San Diego, California.

“[We are] working on new music and enjoy spending consecutive nights in our own beds! Glad that things are looking positive for the future as I think everyone is ready to feel the music again.”

The duo shared that they have familiarised themselves with virtual sets.

“What is incredible is that we can now play to anyone anywhere in the world. The possibilities of where this could go with VR [virtual reality] are exciting.”

The Moonwalk Away hitmakers have had a very busy summer in San Diego and are grateful for the United States’ efficient vaccine roll-out.

“We were able to have a very busy summer in San Diego with over 30 shows including our last show at Red Rocks in Colorado which is just an incredible place!”

“Other than shows we have been surfing, mountain biking and braaiing as much as possible along with perfecting our homemade biltong game.”

Lucky enough for South Africa, they have special shows for December and January 2022.

Huawei Joburg Day: Free to all
