First-look: Gail Mabalane to star in crime thriller ‘Unseen’ [watch]

Celebrated actress and former Miss Kaizer Chiefs Africa Gail Mabalane leads a star cast in the gripping new Netflix series ‘Unseen’.

Multi-talented actress Gail Mabalane first stepped into the spotlight when she was crowned Miss Kaizer Chiefs Africa in 2001. Since then, she has blazed a trail in the entertainment industry, from being a Idols SA Top 10 finalist in 2010 to various acting roles, including in Rockville and Generations. In March, she will be wowing fans again as Zenzi Mwale in Netflix’s new six-part crime thriller Unseen.

The series is set to premiere on the streaming platform on 29 March and is produced by Gambit Films, the production powerhouse behind Blood & Water.

The crime thriller series follows the perilous journey of a domestic worker played by Gail Mabalane who goes in search of her missing husband and comes up against powerful and violent criminals.

Her reaction to the immense and immediate danger she faces is not as timid as she seems.

Gail Mabalane: The bald and the beautiful

  • Mabalane, who played Thandeka Khumalo in Blood & Water, also recently launched her vegan and cruelty-free hair care brand Ethnogenics, according to Sunday World.
  • This follows her battle with alopecia — a medical condition that causes hair loss. How can we forget about the Oscars slapgate saga when actor Will Smith slapped host Chris Rock onstage for making a joke about his wife and actress Jada Pinkett-Smith’s bald head. Pinkett-Smith also suffers from alopecia.
  • The actress – who is married to South African singer and motivational speaker Kabelo Mabalane – opened up about her own experience in her YouTube channel in an episode called My Hair Journey: Part One in 2021.
  • In 2012, the local beauty was announced as the first South African face of international beauty brand Olay.
  • Mabalane has graced covers of leading publications, with features and interviews shared in Cosmopolitan, Grazia, Marie-Claire, Women’s Health and many more, speaking of her career and relevancy.

Acting career

  • In 2015, Mabalane played the lead character Stella in the television series The Road, according to IMBD.
  • She was seen also in 2015 as Sarah in the much loved soapie Generations.
  • The actress continued to demand attention in the popular South African television series Greed and Desire.
