Father’s Day is around the corner and while the malls are flooded with sons and daughters looking for a gift for their fathers, spending quality time with dad is also the perfect gift. Here are five movies to watch with dad on Father’s Day.

1. ‘HUSTLE’

The Adam Sandler-led film Hustle hit Netflix on 3 June and has received rave reviews from film and basketball lovers across the globe. Starring NBA player Juancho Hernangomez who makes his film debut, the drama film centres around a passionate basketball scout who does everything he can to help a Spanish man enter the world’s best basketball league.

2. ‘THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS’

The Pursuit of Happyness is a classic drama film starring Oscar-winning actor Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith. Released in 2006, Chris Gardner is determined to get out of poverty to give his son, Chris Jnr, a better life. 

This is a heartwarming story of a man who puts everything on the line for his child’s wellbeing.

3. ‘FATHERHOOD’

Netflix’s Fatherhood starring Kevin Hart is a film about the ups and downs of raising a daughter as a single father. Hart’s character Matthew faces various challenges like plaiting his daughter’s hair and being the “perfect” father.

4. ‘SILVERTON SIEGE’

Silverton Siege is a South African film directed by Mandla Dube that was released on 27 April. The star-studded film is centered around the real-life events that occurred in Silverton, Pretoria in 1980. The film stars the likes of Thabo Rametsi, Stefan Erasmus, Arnold Vosloo and Tumiso Masha. 

The film is available to stream on Netflix.

5. ‘NEW MATERIAL’

Led by comedians and actors Riaad Moosa and Joey Rasdien, the 2020 film New Material is a sequel to their 2012 comedy film, Material. Moosa, who plays Cassim, is navigating life as a father and husband while trying to advance his career as a comedian. 

New Material is available to stream on Showmax.
