Sibusiso Zwane is a self-taught information technology specialist who has created an app, Sawubona Music Jam, to help local artists — big and small — market their music and grow their brands.

SAWUBONA MUSIC JAM’ APPLICATION

The tech world is where it is at and Sibusiso is making his mark with Sawubona Music Jam.

Sowetan Live reported that the app allows for artist to upload music, stream live performances, stream of uploaded music, and it also gives them a platform to interact.

Sibusiso launched the lit app in June 2021, a proud moment for the young entrepreneur. It is available for download on Google Play Store.

SIBUSISO’S ‘AHA MOMENT’

Sibusiso came across a venue called Sawubona Music Jam in Soweto. The venue gives upcoming artists and poets a platform to perform and promote their brands for free.

Seeing this, the tech-savvy entrepreneur thought it would be a good idea to make this platform available to all… so he created an app.

“I realised that I can create a bigger platform for them and streamed the live event for people even outside of Soweto to enjoy music. Some of these artists are upcoming while others are established but are not getting bookings.

“That way we can introduce them to a wide audience. They have a platform to expose their talent and have their music streamed. The platform is also local.”

SIBUSISO EXPLAINS HOW IT WORKS

Absolutely anyone can become a part of the Sawubona Music Jam fam. All you have to do is download the app and register.

Becoming a part of the community allows you to do your thing as an artist or just to support the artists on the platform. It is for everyone.

Taking things, a step further, Sibusiso and his team have now made it possible for members to download the music at a super reasonable cost.

Sibusiso does not take all the money for himself, he gives a portion to the artist too. What an awesome proudly Mzansi app!

“We have just added a component for the people to download the uploaded music. Everyone gets to benefit, whether music is streamed or downloaded. As the platform, we take our own percentage. When we stream the live concert, we share the money made through streaming. We have high definition content where people pay R50 and ultra-high definition content people pay R100.

“We have loyal members who every month pay for premium content. With downloads of their music, the artists themselves upload their music and open an account where the money will go.  When someone has downloaded their music, the money which is their percentage goes straight to their accounts. While as the platform, we get ours, which is the agreed percentage, direct to our account. We have cut the middle man… which is recording companies in this regard.”
