Netflix announced that Emily in Paris season two is officially in production via a social media post on Monday 3 May.

The announcement comes after Netflix revealed that Emily in Paris was the streaming platform’s most popular comedy series of 2020. According to Deadline, the series was watched by 58 million households in the first 28 days of its release back in October 2020. In November, the series was renewed for a second season.

The series also received a Golden Globe nomination earlier this year, to the surprise of many.

“If you didn’t hear, the cast of Emily in Paris is back in town! Production of Season 2 has officially kicked off! ????,” the post was captioned.

Emily in Paris stars Lily Collins as Emily, a young, ambitious marketing executive from the United States of America (USA) who lands her dream job in Paris. She is in charge of the social media strategy and the series takes viewers on Emily’s adventures of work, romance and travel in Paris.

“We are writing to inform you that Emily Cooper’s new work permit has been approved with a start date of May 3 2021. As per our prior correspondence, she is an asset to SAVOIR and we hope she continues to have impact with our clients who are very particular about the results they expect from our agency,” wrote Emily’s superior, Sylvie Grateau on Emily in Paris social media page.

Emily is set to embrace the French culture more in the upcoming season. The first season showed Emily’s view of Paris through an American lens, now she will be embracing the city more.

“As we often work with very unique brands, we hope that Emily continues to immerse herself culturally here in order to not make any egregious faux pas. We will continue to keep you updated on her progress and accomplishments in the coming months,” continued Grateau.

show creator Darren Star continued on the topic of Emily building on her knowledge of french culture.

“For me, it’s the evolution of the character. I think when someone goes to Paris for the first time, they are overwhelmed by the beauty of the city and that’s what they’re seeing,” said Star to Variety

“I think, perhaps, a lot of viewers who lived in Paris for a long time didn’t quite understand that this was through the lens of a character who was experiencing the city for the first time. That’s how she was perceiving it — she was really struck by the beauty that was all around her,” he continued.

Emily will also be working and struggling with her French this season.

“When she got there, she got a bit of a free pass in the beginning and I don’t think it will be quite as easy for her in second season. I think she will be more assimilated, in terms of living in Paris and stepping up to the challenges of learning the language,” he added.
