The drive-in making a comeback has excited many South Africans. Particularly during lockdown, the reality of no cinema has been a bitter pill to swallow. However, with lockdown rules and regulations slowly being adjusted, Capetonians can now enjoy the cinema experience from the comfort of their vehicles.
The well-known Galileo Open Air Cinema has adjusted its service to offer those based in and around Cape Town a film on the big screen.
Their website reads: “We’re bringing back the beloved drive-in with an array of cinematic delights on the big screen and delicious movie-pairing food available to order from the comfort of your vehicle. Park off, cuddle up and enjoy a ridiculously romantic and nostalgic evening out.”
There will be two screenings at Spier on 4 July — My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Dirty Dancing — both crowd-pleasers. The screening of the romcom will take place at 18:00, followed by the 80s classic at 21:00.
Seating is limited and cinema tickets are purchased per car.
Hygiene regulations are in place to ensure a safe environment.
In order to enjoy an evening out with friends and family, co-operation will be needed to ensure that the environment is safe amidst the pandemic.
