RARE 100% RATING ON ROTTEN TOMATOES

The Tragedy of Macbeth scored a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Here is a look at the critics reviews of the film according to review-aggregation website.

Critics noted that the director and lead actors made the film memorable again.

“It’s a story that you know and has been adapted through many mediums, but Coen, Washington, Mcdormand, Hunter, and a talented ensemble makes the play memorable again,” Murjani Rawls from the Substream Magazine.

Another critic admired the production value of the film.

“It’s stage-bound in all the right ways, reminiscent of a much earlier cinema, when filmmakers barely stepped outdoors and wielded magic with shadow and light on soundstages. It’s short, sharp and savage,” says top rated critic Dave Calhounfrom Time Out.

“Macbeth becomes, like so many of the Coens’ protagonists, a character trapped in his own fixations and failings, the concave world onscreen a reflection of the self he can’t escape,” says top critic Alison Willmore from New York Magazine/Vulture.

DENZEL WASHINGTON’S STELLAR PERFORMANCE

Denzel Washington’s performance in the film captured the hearts of many. The Equaliser star is 66 years old which is older than the typical actors who have previously played the role of Macbeth.

While his co-star Frances McDormand is also in her 60s, older than the typical actresses that have previously played Lady Macbeth, the two give a new dimension to their characters, notes Vulture.
