The adventures of this iconic king and his knights of the round table have held our fascination for centuries, and the stories have been adapted for TV and film as long as there has been cinema. Netflix has now decided to bring us another side of this story, told from a completely new perspective — Cursed.

The new show is called Cursed and is adapted from the novel by Thomas Wheeler, illustrated by the famous comic book artist and writer Frank Miller.

What is Cursed about?

The story of Cursed is told through the eyes of Nimue, a young heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful if not tragic lady of the lake.

After her mother dies, Nimue finds an unexpected partner in a young mercenary named Arthur who is on a quest to find Merlin and deliver to him an ancient sword.

Throughout her journey, she becomes a symbol of courage and rebellion against the frightening Red Paladins and their complicit King Uther.

In this retelling of the classic Arthur story, it is the lady of the lake who is destined to wield the legendary sword Excalibur.

The cast

The cast of this new Arthurian tale will be led by Katherine Langford who is famous for such titles as 13 Reasons Why and Knives Out.

Arthur himself will be played by Devon Terrell; Merlin will be played by Gustaf Skarsgard. King Uther Pendragon will be played by Sebastian Armesto, Shalom Brune-Franklin will portray Sister Ingraine, Matt Stokoe will play Gawain the Green Knight, Peter Mullan is Father Carden, Daniel Sharman plays the weeping monk, and Emily Coates will portray Sister Iris.

In January of 2019, the set had begun being built on unused army land in Deepcut, England.

Filming was scheduled to start and continue until September 2019 and thus far has not been delayed for any reason and therefore will go on as planned.

Unfortunately, we do not yet have a scheduled premiere date for Cursed, although the show is expected to make an appearance soon, according to Netflix.

Season 1 will have 10 episodes for our viewing pleasure and is exclusive to Netflix for the time being.

This new Arthurian series will undoubtedly put an entirely new spin on what we know to be the story of King Arthur, as this adaptation will document his journey from a whole new perspective.
