The annual MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) took place on Sunday 12 September at Barclays Center in New York City. Here is a throwback to the top five craziest moments that happened at the VMAs from Britney Spears’ python performance to Miley Cyrus twerking on Robin Thicke.
1. BRITNEY PERFORMING WITH A PYTHON
Back in 2001, Britney Spears performed her hit I’m A Slave 4 U and slithered around the stage with a albino Burmese python around her neck.
However, Britney Spears was not as brave as her facial expressions through the electric performance would lead you to believe. Her choreographer said that she was initially scared but she put on a brave face and handled it.
“She was very afraid of the python,” said the choreographer Brian Friedman to New York Post.
“But that doesn’t mean she didn’t want to do it. She was like, ‘Hell yeah, I’m gonna do it.’ But then when you’re standing there, and the animal trainer’s telling you a laundry list of do’s and don’ts that could potentially make the python constrict around your neck, that gets a little bit scary,” he continued.

2. KANYE WEST INTERRUPTING TAYLOR SWIFT’S SPEECH
Who could forget that time Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift’s speech? At the 2009 VMAs, Taylor Swift had just won Best Pop Female Video for You Belong With Me and as she began her speech, Kanye West popped up on stage and said Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.

3. BRITNEY AND MADONNA’S KISS
Britney Spears and Madonna’s kiss at the VMAs in 2003 was definitely one for the books. While performing a medley of Like A Virgin and Hollywood, Madonna kissed both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
4. DIANA ROSS GRABS LIL KIM’S BREAST
At the VMAs in 1999, American singer Diana Ross grabbed rapper Lil Kim’s breast while on stage. Lil Kim was wearing a purple one-shoulder jumpsuit with just a pastie covering her left breast.
5. MILEY CYRUS TWERKING ON ROBIN THICKE
At the VMAs in 2013, Miley Cyrus had tongues wagging across the world after she joined American singer Robin Thicke on stage and twerked on him.
