The 61-year-old theatre in Muizenberg will be opening its doors for some exciting festive season musical entertainment.

The community and the theatre’s “friends” around the globe came together to support a Backabuddy campaign in aid of the Masque. Thanks to this effort the theatre raised R120,000, which saw it through the difficult coronavirus lockdown months when many businesses, theatres and public venues were closed.

The Masque Theatre community have come together once again, with a small group of talented performers to stage This Moment: A Musical Cabaret. All proceeds from the show will further help to keep the theatre open.

The production is based on a COVID-sensitive approach while its cabaret slant will allow audiences a chance to still enjoy those big Broadway musical numbers theatre fans love to hear as the year comes to an end.

Safe rehearsing and highly imaginative set design have been employed in what will be an exuberant showcase for the hard-working cast and crew.

Though the theatre is still not fully out of the woods yet, it is delighted that it is able to bring an uplifting December offering to its audiences and fans in the form of ‘This Moment‘.

This Moment is based around the idea that we all just want to love and be loved in return. It is a story about the enduring love performers have for the theatre, and their hopes and dreams in life.

The show is the first major musical to be staged at the Masque Theatre since the onset of the lockdown. After competitive auditions, nine special performers were chosen to deliver songs such as Maybe This Time, I’m the Greatest Star and The Show Must Go On in what promises to be a socially-distanced, visual feast.

‘This Moment’ to boast ‘exceptional sound and seamless tech’

It would be presented by Magnetic Storm, one of South Africa’s leading event and audiovisual companies, and audiences could look forward to “exceptional sound and seamless tech”, the threatre said in a statement.

“With an admittedly sombre year for the arts behind us, this strong production team is set to uplift our theatre season with stirring songs and a heartfelt story.”
