‘Bridgerton’ bombshell: Regé-Jean Page will not return for season two

Lady Whistledown announced that the dashing Duke of Hastings, Regé-Jean Page, will not feature in Bridgerton’s season two.

Lady Whistledown, the show’s anonymous gossip doyenne played by Julie Andrews, announced that Regé-Jean Page will not be returning for season two of Bridgerton via a tweet on 2 April leaving fans across the world heartbroken.

The dashing Duke of Hastings is the most popular character on the series from his looks to his accent and left fans across the world completely love-struck. 

Regé-Jean Page is ranked as the No 1 Netflix actor who gained the most Instagram followers after the release of the show. In the month alone that Bridgerton was release, he gained 3 792 607.

LADY WHISTLEDOWN’S ANNOUNCEMENT 

As earlier revealed, season two focuses on the love story of Anthony Bridgerton with Kate Sharma played by Simone Ashley. However, fans did not know this meant that the Duke of Hastings would step aside completely. 

“While all eyes turn to Lord Anthon Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” read the release.

“We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family,” the release continued. 

Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor — who played the role of Simon’s wife, Daphne in Bridgerton, were the breakout stars of the series. Phoebe Dynevor also made the Top 10 list of Netflix actors who gained the most followers on Instagram, boasting a total of 1 744 045 followers. 

Lady Whistledown announced that Phoebe Dynevor’s character will remain a part of season two despite her husband’s departure. 

“Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer — more intrigue and romance than readers may be able to bear,” the release added.

Last week, Regé-Jean Page won an NCAAP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series in honour of his role as the Duke of Hastings in Bridgerton

 Regé-Jean Page’s popularity on the show made the news the harder to bear with many people taking to Twitter to express that they no longer see a reason to watch Bridgerton without their “eye candy” starring in the series.
