Musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye is reportedly seeking nearly R100 million from Moja Love for breach of contract, unpaid salary, and royalties following the channel’s decision to dismiss him as host of Uyajola 9/9.

The fan-favourite Uyajola 9/9 host Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye is reportedly suing Moja Love R100 million after sources revealed to City Press that he was fired via a letter.

The publication also reveals that the rapper-presenter filed an application at the Johannesburg High Court on Monday, 27 February after the channel ‘refused’ to pay him various sums of money, which allegedly led to the termination of his contract.

Maarohanye believes he was fired after issuing a letter of demand to the channel for an unpaid or withheld salary.

The court papers read as follows: “It is obligatory and in terms of the contract that my salary is deposited directly into my bank account on a monthly basis. To my surprise, I learnt that at the end of January to even up to 2 February 2023, I had not received my salary.”

“All attempts to call the second respondent (Tau) and the legal adviser of the channel never yielded any results. At his point in time, debit orders were being returned unpaid. I did not know the reasons for this conduct of the first respondent (Moja Love) through the second respondent.”

“Upon the receipt of the letter of demand, instead of paying my salary, the second respondent sent to the channel legal adviser, Nandi Ndaba, instructing her to send me a letter of cancellation. From this, the respondents were repudiating the contract.”

The TV host also reportedly requested his lawyers to write a letter of demand to Moja Love, demanding his unpaid January salary of more than half a million (R510 000).

According to City Press, the former Uyajola 9/9 host Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye cited that his contract with Moja Love stipulated that he should be paid a performance bonus of nothing less than R20 000, which had become overdue for 2022. As he was never paid his bonus for the year 2021, the amount now equates to R50 000.

He also wants the channel to pay him R2 million in damages for an expected renewal of his contract and a further R72 million in royalties for his song used by the channel as a soundtrack.

“I shall also seek relief pertaining to title track usage by the respondents in the show I initially hosted called Uthando Noxolo. I have not been compensated in a form of goodwill nor as royalties for my song, notwithstanding various agreements to do so on various occasions,” said Jub Jub.

The presenter also demands R10 million as the channel used his images on billboards across the country without his permission and an additional R8 million as he expected his contract to be extended for another five years.

The talented TV presenter is also seeking payment relief as he’s co-producer of the cheating show, Uyajola 99.

“By virtue of the oral agreement between myself and the second respondent, such an amount is due and payable immediately,” read the court papers.

Neither Maarohanye nor Moja Love was available for comment when publishing this article.
