‘Idols SA’ parts ways with both Randall Abrahams and Unathi Nkayi

Mzansi Magic has confirmed that ‘Idols SA’ has bid farewell to Randall Abrahams and Unathi Nkayi. Somizi reportedly returns this season.

Idols SA judges Randall Abrahams and Unathi Nkayi will not be returning to the show when Somizi Mhlongo reportedly returns.  

Mzansi Magic and (Sic) Entertainment have confirmed that both judges will not be part of Idols SA season 18.

RANDALL ABRAHAMS IS OUT  

Channel 24 has reported that long-term judges Randall Abrahams and Unathi Nkayi will not be returning to Idols SA when Somizi Mhlongo reportedly returns.  

M-Net’s new director for local entertainment channels Shirley Ardonis announced:  

“The channel will not be renewing their contracts with for the upcoming season of the popular singing show.”

“We are taking a fresh approach to the judging panel to retain audiences and stay competitive in the Sunday night timeslot.”  

“Randall and Unathi have demonstrated high levels of professionalism and made an impact on the South African entertainment scene that will continue to be felt for some time to come.”

“We wish them well in their endeavours.”  

The shocking exits of both Randal Abrahams and Nkayi come a week after News24 revealed that fan-favourite judge Somizi Mhlongo – will likely return to the singing competition.

UNATHI NKAYI IS ALSO OUT  

TV and radio personality Unathi Nkayi was reportedly forced out of Idols SA season 18.  

Sources from the singing competition stated that Nkayi left the show for similar reasons to those of Mhlongo.   

Nkayi was fired by Johannesburg radio station Kaya 959 back in November.   

The station confirmed she was fired following a verbal feud with her co-worker Sizwe Dhlomo.   

Idols gave Somizi a break based on allegations of gender-based violence.”  

“Unathi was entangled in the allegations that she made against Sizwe which were found to be false.”  

“So she now has to be given a break from the show.”

SOMIZI MHLONGO RETURNS  

Fan-favourite judge Somizi Mhlongo is reportedly returning to the singing competition this season.     

Sources revealed:   

Idols gave Somizi a break based on allegations of gender-based violence.”

“Unathi was entangled in the allegations that she made against Sizwe which were found to be false.”

“So she now has to be given a break from the show.”   

“So he will be making a return this season after he was given a break last year (2021) to sort out his personal issues.”

Auditions for Idols SA season 18 begin on Sunday, 23 January 2022.
