Prince Harry alleged that members of the royal family felt their wives went through the media scrutiny so there wasn’t a reason for her to be more protected – on the first episode of their Netflix docuseries which released on 8 December.

The docuseries is titled Harry & Megan and volume one, consisting of three episodes released on Thursday 8 December. Volume two releases on Thursday 15 December.

PRINCE HARRY ON THE ‘RACE ELEMENT’

The Duke of Sussex Prince Harry opened up about the media scrutiny Meghan Markle faced after the news of their romance went public.

He alleged that members of the royal family felt that their wives had also gone through the media scrutiny as if it was an initiation rite. So, they thought, why should the Duchess of Sussex be treated any differently or protected anymore than others have.

However, Harry said that the difference was the race element. Meghan is mixed race, her mom Doria Ragland is a black woman while her father Thomas Markle is white.

Harry then recalls releasing a statement about the media coverage with “racist undertones” after his wife was subjected to the media.

MEGHAN’S MOM DORIA WEIGHS IN

Doria – Meghan’s mom – also made an appearance in the docuseries. She described her daughter as an “old soul”. She said that Meghan got through school with straight A’s adding that she couldn’t help her with her homework.

Meghan also spoke about her mom being called the “n-word” for the first time in front of her during a traffic incident.

“Obviously now everyone is aware of my race because they made it such an issue when I went to the UK,” she said, noting that before then she wasn’t really treated like a black woman.

The episode ended with a montage of aggressive social media aimed at the Duchess. This included a voice clip of someone saying “Meghan seems to be a version of the antichrist”.
