A South African couple has found themselves on the top of Twitter trends following their romantic proposal in a local Nando’s restaurant. In various snaps that have been circulating the net, the taken-aback woman laughs nervously as her man takes her hand before taking to his knee. South Africans loved to see it.

A flaming hot meal and super sweet proposal

A Cape Town couple has left many of us awwing after various snaps and clips of their proposal started circulating online. 61-year-old Magdalene Martheze and her partner 40-year-old Marlon Michaels were having a nice lunch at one of South Africa’s favourite restaurants when all of a sudden he was taking her hand.

According to Martheze in an IOL article, she thought they were just having a meal together at the V&A Waterfront as a late celebration for Marlon’s birthday that was on Saturday but little did she know, Marlon was about to ask for her to marry him.

“Marlon just celebrated his birthday on Saturday but was working on the day. He also just finished at his job, which he rarely got off from, and he decided he was taking me out for the day,” she told IOL.

She then explains how puzzled she was by staff members recording them when suddenly Marlon was on his knees and popping the question.

She said yes!

Martheze said yes to the proposal and is now an engaged woman despite many people showing concern about their considerable age difference.

The couple has been dating for only 7 months but she describes him as her “one in a million man” and that’s the only thing that really matters.

Meanwhile the internet reacts:

The internet loved it and were soon sharing cute messages with the happy couple. Many of them also called on Nando’s to help them cover the food cost for the wedding. Here are some of their comments.
