The much anticipated season two of the hit Netflix series Bridgerton releases on Friday 25 March and what can you expect this season?

IT SEEMS THE DUKE IS REPLACED WITH DRAMA

The charming Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset (played by Regé-Jean Page) captured the hearts of millions in the first season of Bridgerton. So, when it was announced that he would not be returning for season two many were heartbroken.

Some were also not interested in the second season because their favourite eye candy was no longer gracing their screens. However, Bridgerton season two, even without the beloved Duke of Hastings, was filled with suspense and lots of drama. There was so much going on that viewers may actually forget the absence of the duke.

Lady Whistledown, who was revealed to be Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) last season – is doing her level best to keep her identity a secret. However, it appears she may need some help.

The Queen on the other hand is still determined to find out who Lady Whistledown is and will go to great lengths to get her answer… including naming her diamond of the season. The Featheringtons have some financial drama of their own brewing. So, they are too occupied to pay attention to everything else going on.

All while Lady Danbury has more on her plate than ever before. She is hosting the Sharma family in her home for the season. As the teasers reveal, Mary Sharma ( played by Shelley Conn) has two daughters Kate (played by Simone Ashley) and Edwina (played by Charithra Chandran). So, this season centres around both the Sharma’s and the Bridgertons.

WHAT COMES FIRST, LOVE OR RESPONSIBILITIES?

As we also already know this season shifts focus from the Duke and Duchess of Hastings to the love life of Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey).

Kate has come to the ton for the sole purpose of finding the perfect love match for her sister Edwina, who she has groomed over the years. She has no intention of staying in London after Edwina is married… she simply wants to return to India and live her life content and alone.

Kate wants the absolute best for Edwina but that is where she and Anthony but heads because the viscount is not interested in a love match but someone to help him fulfil his roles and responsibilities as the viscount after the passing of his father.

So, Kate and Anthony grow to hate each other because he pursues courting her sister… but sparks seem to fly and as they say, love does not play by the rules! Edwina of course gets caught between the two. So, what would the honourable viscount choose, love or fulfilling his roles and responsibilities?

This season is much slower paced than the first. It took no more than three minutes for the first season of the series to jump into an intense sex scene. However, this season allows for more of an emotional connection than the last. The series scored an impressive 82% on Rotten Tomatoes.
