Actress Zikhona Sodlaka scores new role after ‘The Wife’ EXIT

Actress Zikhona Sodlaka, who exited ‘The Wife’ as Mandisa stars in the isiXhosa telenovela ‘Gqeberha: The Empire’ as Bulelwa.

Actress Zikhona Sodlaka, who recently exited The Wife as Abdul Khoza’s on-screen wife Mandisa will play a sister wife Bulelwa in the new isiXhosa telenovela Gqeberha: The Empire, which has replaced The Queen.

ZIKHONA SODLAKA: NEW ROLE  

TVSA reports that the latest isiXhosa telenovela Gqeberha: The Empire which stars former The Queen actress Zandile Msutswana and former The Wife actress Zikhona Sodlaka is a fantasy version of uThando Nes’thembu, starring Mbulelo Grootboom instead of Musa Mseleku.  

Fans of actress Zikhona Sodlaka, who played Mandisa in The Wife will start seeing her on Monday 16 January at 21h00 on Mzansi Magic as Bulelwa.

TVSA adds that the telenovela is produced by Tshedza Pictures, who’ve written for The Queen and Gomora and created The River, Giyani: Land of Blood, Legacy.   

The show is set in the Eastern Cape and is reportedly the first Mzansi Magic telenovela to be filmed entirely in the province.  

Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela previously reported that the budget for the show is R86 million.

Daily Sun reports that Sodlaka will also star alongside Kay Bikitsha, Phila Madlingozi, Anelen Matoti, and Akhenime Mfenyanye.   

“Gqeberha: The Empire is about a man who seemingly has it all: family, love, money, power, glory, and respect. Luzuko Mxenge is a successful businessman who is the husband of three very different, very strong wives: Bulelwa, Zimkhita, and Nozuko. His decision to expand the family soon threatens to bring out the bitterness his wives have long suppressed ­­- but also comes with complications no one could have predicted, endangering his relationship with his heir apparent,” reports TVSA.  

Shirley Adonis, who is director of local entertainment at Mnet tells Daily Sun that Mzansi Magic is excited to premiere the new telenovela.  

“We are excited to expand into Gqeberha and Eastern Cape, a first for the telenovela world. With the incredible quality of storytelling from one of the top production houses on the continent, we are optimistic that our audiences with fall in love with the series.”
