EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE 2023 BAFTAS

The 2023 BAFTAs will be held on Sunday, 19 February. And, instead of the usual Royal Albert Hall, it will be held at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.

According to the organisation, the 76th British Academy Film Awards will be the “most ambitious and accessible night yet.”

The night will end for the first time in its history with the winners for the final four categories—best actor, best actress, best director, and best film—being announced live on air.

In previous years, the entire BAFTAs ceremony has been prerecorded on the same night and broadcast with a delay, Vogue reports.

This year’s event will have two hosts. Oscar and BAFTA nominee Richard E. Grant will take the lead in the auditorium, while presenter Alison Hammond will be stationed in the BAFTA Backstage Studio where viewers will get a 360-degree viewing experience, complete with interviews from past and present winners, nominees, and presenters.

Film critic Ali Plumb and broadcaster Vick Hope will host the red carpet show.

WHO WILL PERFORM AND ATTEND BRITAIN’S BIGGEST NIGHT

Following the success of last year’s iconic performance by Dame Shirley Bassey, viewers are in for a treat.

“Music performances will feature throughout the broadcast from music newcomers and legends alike,” the organsiation announced in a statement.

There are is no word yet on the performers, but Little Simz is confirmed to perform a track from her fifth studio album, “No Thank You“.

BAFTA also released a star-studded guest list that included Angela Bassett, Austin Butler, Brendan Fraser, Carey Mulligan, Cate Blanchett, Charlotte Wells, Colin Farrell, Eddie Redmayne, and Emma Thompson.

Jamie Lee Curtis, Micheal Ward, Michelle Yeoh, Sam Mendes, and Viola Davis will also reportedly attend.

Kensington Palace confirmed that the Prince and Princess of Wales will also attend the BAFTAs ceremony. They will also meet the night’s winners and the EE Rising Star Award nominees.

Vogue reports that the event will have somewhat of a royal theme. Helen Mirren, who won both an Oscar and a BAFTA for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II, will lead a tribute to Her Majesty during the ceremony.

“The Queen occupies a unique place in BAFTA’s history, a close association that spanned 50 years,” the British Academy wrote in a statement. “Through her various patronages, The Queen was renowned for her support of the U.K.’s creative industries.”
