Amy Winehouse biopic: Jack O’Connell and Lesley Manville joins in

Amy Winehouse fans and supporters seem to have mixed emotions about the film.

Since production on Back to Black started, behind-the-scenes images of actress Marisa Abela, who plays the role of Winehouse, have spread like wildfire.

Little however, is known about the rest of the cast.

ANTICIPATION IS BUILDING

Info about the film has been sparse, only adding to the anticipation.

Sam Taylor-Johnson, the BAFTA-nominated director behind Nowhere Boy and Fifty Shades of Grey, is taking the lead behind the camera. The script has been penned by Matt Greenhalgh, Vogue reports.

According to reports, the film is being made with the full support of the Amy Winehouse estate, which includes the musician’s father, Mitch Winehouse.

It is still unclear which part of the singer’s life the film will focus on – her childhood or career.

Images of the leading actress, Marisa Abela, have amped up the anticipation but very little has been known about the other actors part of the film.

According to Vogue, the 26-year-old actress is also of Jewish heritage, a fact which is reportedly important to the film’s creative team in order to establish authenticity.

Abela also has singing experience.

JACK O’CONNELL AND LESLEY MANVILLE JOINS CAST

Now, Deadline has revealed that Jack O’Connell, Lesley Manville, and Eddie Marsan will also be seen in the film.

O’Connell plays the role of Blake Fielder-Civil, Winehouse’s husband of two years. Marsan will play her father and Manville will be seen as her grandmother, Cynthia.

Previous reports suggest that Winehouse was particularly close with her grandmother.
