IT IS WRITTEN: The Body, Soul and Spirit

God created humans as one in three, as He is. Learn the divine link between the body, spirit and the soul.

God says that He has made us in His own image (Genesis 1:27). We are 3 in 1: Spirit, Soul, and Body.

“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NIV)

Medical science has shown that there is a connection between our soul (mind/ freewill/ emotions) and our body. What about our spirit? This is where our thoughts initiate – either from external or internal influences.

From the very beginning in the Garden of Eden, we see that Satan influenced mankind through their  thought processes. Genesis 3:11 (NIV) And he (God) said, “who told you that you were naked? i.e. sin is a being, not a state of being!

The devil’s tactic is to deceive us in the form of ‘first-person’ thoughts through our spirit, catching us unaware. As we embrace these ungodly thought processes, we are led further away from truth and wholeness. The thief comes to rob, kill, and destroy – but Christ has come that we may have life in abundance! (John 10:10).

For the enemy to win, he needs to persuade us to disbelieve God’s word – only then can he have access. When we meditate on these thoughts instead of rejecting them, they become poisonous memory trees in our brains (as per Dr Caroline Leaf – neuroscientist).

This in turn has a disastrous effect on our physical brain and body, leading to all sorts of medical problems. This is why God commands us to take every thought captive.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the  knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)

The more time we spend with the Lord, the more we get to know His character and His Word. That  way, when we are plagued with thoughts that are contrary to the word and will of God, we can recognize that these thoughts are the attempts of the enemy to derail us.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it  penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints, and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

A healthy body starts with a healthy spirit

Thankfully, God has given us the Holy Spirit who helps us within to renew our thought life and  overcome poisonous thinking patterns of fear, guilt, shame, bitterness, self-hatred etc.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against  the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the  heavenly realms.”

Ephesians 6:12 (NIV)

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57) There is always hope for healing through Jesus! We have graciously been given the gift of repentance (both personally and generationally). God works through conviction, not condemnation.

His Holy Spirit is powerful within us, and He has promised to take us through the journey to wholeness as we keep returning to Him for sanctification:

  1. in our spirit (where we take up our authority in Christ to be overcomers)
  2. in our soul (where we remove poisonous mindsets and replace them with His word through faith) This in turn develops a more peaceful state in our bodies, allowing healing to flow. As we submit to God and resist the devil, he will flee!

God has promised to help us change from one degree of glory to another (2 Corinthians 3:18), and He will act on His word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12) as we continue to trust and obey Him. The battlefield is in the mind. You reap results from whichever Kingdom you sow into. You get to choose who will win!

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

John 8:36 (NIV)

Thank you Jesus, for sending us your Spirit so that we can live in the abundance of life that you promised. Thank you that you gave your all for us so that we could be set free!

Sanctify us we pray and help us take every thought captive, so that we can be overcomers in this life and live in the fullness of health: body, soul and spirit!

In Jesus name we pray.
