Breaking Bread: Serving the Lord with empathy and humility

Jesus taught us to have a “Servanthood’’ leadership and to give ourselves sacrificially and with love, empathy and humility.

It is written, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. What a profound truth! A realization that eases the grip of life on man – surrendering to God in all things. Partake in this feast as we consume food for the soul, nourishing the spirit in Breaking Bread. It is Monday, 7th November 2022.

Servant Christians serve the Lord with empathy and humility

Jesus was prepared to serve everyone, even the one who would ultimately betray Him. He taught us to have a “Servanthood’’ leadership and to give ourselves sacrificially and with love, empathy and humility.

EMPATHY

“Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep”.

Romans 12:15

How many times in our lives have we experienced sadness and hardship, we had somebody sit with us and encourage us when we needed it the most. It means a lot to us if we have a family member or friend truly empathising with us during our times of struggles.

As servant leaders we must also learn to be flexible by adapting to our situations, episodes and surroundings in our lives. We must understand and acknowledge that life has unexpected challenges and situations. We must therefore not allow that these unexpected situations cause anger, confusion or panic. We must however know that God is present, He is in our midst in every circumstance and we must always pray for the guidance of God.

HUMILITY

“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience”.

Colossians 3:12

Humility is grace that attracts more grace. God gives to the humble, patience and peace and the fruit of the Holy Spirit grows in the soil of humility. Jesus did not teach people how to be abused by others. He taught us how to forgive those who persecute us. Jesus lived a life of humility, maintaining a low rank in society. He lived as a servant and through His ministry He urges followers to live as He did. We must remember that the humble person will submit to the plan of God, just like Jesus. (Luke 22:42)

Let us serve the lord with empathy and humility and by doing this we will follow in the footsteps of Christ.

PRAYER

Thank You Lord for teaching us to be humble and to have tenderhearted mercy. Thank You for showing us how to live with each other in love, kindness and patience. Help us to always follow in Your footsteps. Amen.

So is daar talle voorbeelde in die Bybel waar Jesus deernis toon teenoor mense.

NEDERIGHEID

Die teoloog Bonhoeffer het gese: We must learn to regard people less in the light of what they do or omit to do,and more in the light of what they suffer’’.

Amen.
