Lucy Foley has established herself as a master when it comes to murder mysteries. You will probably know her from her bestselling thrillers The Guest List or The Hunting Party, both of which have become TikTok favorites under the book community on #BookTok.

Her newest thriller, The Paris Apartment, is another solid murder mystery with compelling characters. Fans of the series Only Murders in the Building will love The Paris Apartment, which also centres around some very intriguing characters living in the same apartment building.

SOLID, BUT ‘THE PARIS APARTMENT’ FALLS SHORT OF HYPE…

Many people have likened The Paris Apartment to an Agatha Christie novel and I agree with this. You can always count on Christie for a good ol’ mystery full of twists and turns and The Paris Apartment does the same.

However, I don’t think this mystery novel is quite worth the hype surrounding it at the moment. It is definitely enjoyable but it is not a superior mystery that I will compare all other mysteries to.

I would describe this novel as a “light” mystery that is easy to read and fun as well, but not as the new standout novel of our age. That being said, I would recommend this novel to people who are looking for an easy mystery or who enjoy stories set in Paris.

Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother’s situation, and the more questions she has. Ben’s neighbors are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it’s starting to look like it’s Ben’s future that’s in question.

Everyone’s a neighbour. Everyone’s a suspect. And everyone — the socialite; the nice guy; the alcoholic; the girl on the verge and the concierge — has a secret…
