Growing up anxious and odd: Georgia Pritchett pens mesmerising memoir

Instead of writing other people’s stories, award-winning screenwriter Georgia Pritchett put her own story to paper in this hilarious memoir.

British-born comedy writer Georgia Pritchett has written for multiple award-winning shows such as Veep and Succession. Having already proved her mastery in writing for onscreen characters, Pritchett has now turned her sharp and witty pen inwards in her memoir, My Mess is a Bit of a Life: Adventures in Anxiety.

This is now one of my favourite memoirs and it has been a while since a book has actually made me laugh out loud.

But My Mess is a Bit of a Life is much more than just some funny anecdotes about growing up anxious and odd, it also tackles difficult topics like sexism, depression and miscarriage.

GEORGIA PRITCHETT ENCHANTS IN HILARIOUS AND HEARTWARMING MEMOIR

With an easy writing style, Pritchett takes readers on the journey of her real and messy life, from the disaster that is childhood to the even bigger disaster of adulthood. Written in short, easy to read segments, My Mess is a Bit of a Life takes readers into the mind of the (anxiously) hilarious and inspiring woman that is Georgia Pritchett.

Pritchett’s humor is deliciously British, with sarcasm and wit that cuts like a knife while, at the same time, making you want to be her friend.

The best part of this book, however, is not the hilarious stories or the sharp quips, but rather it is the tender exploration of Pritchett’s darkest moments with depression and miscarriage. This book is wonderfully real and magnificently funny – a must-read for all bookworms!

“I didn’t like parties when I was a child because, well, who really likes parties? But one time I came back from a party and to my parents’ amazement, I said I had had a good time. “Why?” they asked. “I had cake and I didn’t join in any of the games.” This has very much been my approach to life.”
