Bestselling murder-mystery writer, Dame Agatha Christie, is the mind behind some of literature’s most famous characters. Christie, who passed away in 1976, has given the literary world the widely loved figures of amateur detectives Hercule Poirot and, my personal favourite, Miss Marple.

Even though we will never have another novel from the “Queen of Crime” herself, Christie’s legacy lives on in a new collection of “Agatha-inspired” short stories.

With the feisty Jane Marple at the helm, Marple is a collection of viciously fun and deliciously dark stories from some of our generation’s most loved authors such as Leigh Bardugo and Naomi Alderman.

Additionally, the audiobook is read by an exciting cast of 12 actors, including Adrian Scarborough, Ramon Tikaram and Miriam Margoyles.

This collection of 12 original short stories, all featuring Jane Marple, will introduce the much-loved character to a new generation. Every author reimagines Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple through their own unique perspective.

According The Guardian, the writers were given strict criteria to follow when writing their short stories. They had to stick to the time period Christie wrote in and they could not mess with the protagonist’s original backstory.

Some famous authors you will see featured in this collection, are Alyssa Cole, Lucy Foley, Val McDermid and Karen M. McManus. The collection also includes writing from critically acclaimed author Kate Mosse.

While all these authors have vastly different styles, the collection works as a whole because the character of Jane Marple stays the same. Fans of Agatha Christie’s work will not be disappointed in this reimagining of her most famous character.

THE HISTORY OF MISS MARPLE

According to the Agatha Christie website, Miss Marple was first introduced to readers in a story Christie wrote for The Royal Magazine in 1927. The character’s first appearance in a full-length novel was in 1930 with The Murder at the Vicarage.

Over the course of her career, Agatha Christie would write twelve novels and twenty short stories featuring Miss Marple as an amateur detective.

It has been over 45 years since Agatha Christie’s last Marple novel, Sleeping Murder, which was published posthumously in 1976. This collection of ingenious new stories by twelve Christie fanatics will remind readers why Jane Marple remains the most famous fictional female detective of all time.
