The popular rapper, real name Kiernan Forbes, will be launching his own subscription TV channel — AKA TV — on Friday 8 May on iOS and Android app stores for a monthly subscription fee of R49..

The channel would serve as a centralised hub of AKA-produced content; music video previews, behind-the-scenes footage, as well as AKA-hosted shows and documentaries.

‘Testament to AKA’s progressiveness’

AKA dropped the news chatting to Slikour on Instagram Live with Slikour on life on Wednesday evening. Later on, AKA gave a “state of the megacy address” (megacy referring to his fans) on an Instagram Live where he shared more about #AKATV.

Raphael Benza of Vth Season, a music and creative entertainment agency in Africa, was quoted by Quick Read Magazine, saying: “The launch of #AKATV is testament to Kiernan’s progressiveness and forward-thinking as a musician and businessman. This is something he has wanted to do for a long time and we’re proud to see this initiative come to fruition.”

What can fans expect from #AKATV?

On his Instagram Live, the rapper shared that he and his team have been working on the channel since January 2020.

“I’ve done a lot of work on TV, but it’s always in little pieces. But from now on, South Africans will be able to see me interviewing their favourite celebrities, visit their houses and will witness all the things I get to see with my eyes, through AKA TV.

“I will also be performing my new singles on The Super Mega Show on AKA TV in two week’s time.”

And of course, the megacy took to the social media streets to celebrate under the hashtag #SOMA2020…
